Dwarf Planets
A Dwarf Planet is...
A celestial body resembling a small planet but lacking certain technical criteria that are required for it to be classed as such.
These are the dwarf planets in our solar system...
A dwarf planet is a celestial body that:
Ceres is the only dwarf planet in the inner solar system or the largest asteroid. It is named after Ceres, the Roman goddess of growing plants, the harvest, and motherly love. It is between Mars and Jupiter in the asteroid belt. Cere goes around the Sun just like other planets but being in the asteroid belt it hasn’t cleared its orbit. It seems it’s better to be a dwarf planet than just a plain old asteroid.
Pluto is the only dwarf planet that has been considered a major planet in our solar system. Pluto became known as a dwarf planet in 2006. Now Pluto is one of the largest known members of the Kuiper Belt. Pluto is the second-most-massive known dwarf planet in the Solar System after Eris. It was discovered in 1930. Pluto has five moons Charon, Nix, Hydra, S/2011 (134340) 1, and S/2011 (134340) 1. Pluto name for the god of the underworld.
Eris is the largest dwarf planet in our solar system. It was previously known as UBU 313 and nicknamed Xena before it was given its current name. The dwarf planet Eris is named for the Greek goddess of strife. Eris was discovered in January 2005 by a Palomar Observatory-based team led by Mike Brown. It takes icy Eris 557 Earth years to complete a single orbit around our sun. The plane of Eris orbit is well out of the plane of the solar system's planets and extends far beyond the Kuiper Belt, a zone of icy debris beyond the orbit of Neptune.
Makemake not much is known about this dwarf planet that circles the Sun beyond Pluto. Makemake is now the largest Kuiper belt object. The name of Makemake, the creator of humanity and god of fertility in the mythos of the Rapanui. Makemake was discovered on March 31, 2005, by a team at the Palomar Observatory, led by Michael Brown.
Haumea was named after the Hawaiian goddess of childbirth, orbits the sun beyond the path of Neptune, with two moons in orbit around it named Hi'iaka and Namaka, two of the deity's daughters. Haumea is a strange football-shaped dwarf planet. The larger moon Hi‘iaka is named after the goddess of the island of Hawaii and of the hula and the smaller moon, Namaka is named after a water spirit. Haumea is the 3rd largest dwarf planet.

A dwarf planet is a celestial body that:
- Orbits the sun.
- Has enough mass to assume a nearly round shape.
- Has not cleared the neighborhood around its orbit.
- is not a moon
