The Sun
Diameter:1,900,000 km.
Mass:1.989e30 kg
Temperature:5800 K (surface) 15,600,000 K (core)
The sun is 70% hydrogen and 28% helium the 2% that's left is metals. This changes slowly over time because in the middle it changes hydrogen to helium. At the equator the surface rotates once every 25.4 days near the poles it rotates every 36 days. At the center of the core the sun is 150 times denser than water.
The Sun's power is about 386 billion Mega Watts it is caused by nuclear fusion reactions. Each second about 700,000,000 tons of hydrogen are converted to about 695,000,000 tons of helium. The surface of the sun is about 5000 k. Sunspots are about 3800 k.and are darker than other parts of the sun due to the decreasing in temperature.
The sun has a very strong magnetic field that extends well past Pluto. The sun is 4.5 billion years old and it has used up about half of the hydrogen in its core. The 8 planets and the a large number of smaller objects are the sun's satellites. The interior of the sun has many layers; on the inside it is made up of the core that's called radiative zone and the convective zone. The solar atmosphere above that is made of the photosphere and chromosphere a transition region also known as the corona. Beyond that is the solar wind and outflow of gas from the corona.
The photosphere is the lowest layer of the suns atmosphere and that's what emits the light that we see. The photosphere is 300 miles thick. Temperatures range from 11,000 at the bottom and 7,460 towards the top. The sun is a star and is a hot ball of glowing gases at the center of our solar system.
