Harrison Hagan "Jack" Schmitt
His Life
Jack Schmitt he was born July 3,1935 in Santa Rita, New Mexico. Jack was the twelfth person to walk on the moon and so far has been the last. His profession is geology which is science that deals with the earth's physical structure and substance, its history, and the processes that act on it. His nationality is American. He went to Harvard to study geology. There he received a Ph.D in 1964. He first received a B.S. degree in geology from the California Institute of Technology in 1957, then he spent time as graduate student at University of Oslo in Norway.

NASA Career
Before he started working at NASA as a first group of scientist/astronauts, he spent his year at a Air Force UPT learning to be a pilot. In March 1970 he became the first of the scientist-astronauts to be assigned to space flight, joining two other people that were backup crew. They made up the Apollo 17 crew.

Post NASA Career
In August 1975, Schmitt resigned from NASA to seek election as a Republican to the United States Senate representing New Mexico. He won and served one term. The next time he ran for senate again, he lost to Jeff Bingaman who was an attorney general. Schmitt is an adjunct professor of engineering physics at the University of Wisconsin–Madison, and has long been a proponent of lunar resource utilization. Now he is 77 years old.
